We suggest another web site loaded with information: http://www.nativeweb.org.

While we understand and appreciate the desire of many, many people to conduct genealogy research, the Georgia tribe of Eastern Cherokee simply doesn't have the resources to provide extensive research on an individual.

Please be advised that the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee is in no way affiliated with the web site: GACHER.com, purporting to be Indian genealogist. Nor are they members of the Tribe.

You may always do your own research, but remember the burden of proof is on you. Most of the Cherokee Indian rolls are listed on the web. You must however, through birth and death records show your connection to the individual under which you claim.

Remember, when writing a researcher, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. Do not send money until you have made an arrangement concerning fees. Make your check or money order payable to your researcher, not the Cherokee Nation in OK or NC.

Official United States Government Cherokee Rolls
The Cherokee rolls may be searched the National Archives location nearest you (for instance at Morrow, Ga.). Also many university libraries and historical societies have copies. Finally, some rolls have been transcribed and posted on the Internet. The Guion Miller index is now online at the government's Archival Research Catalog (ARC, replacing NAIL). Try the list at Tennessee GenWeb. There is also a wealth of information, including Cherokee bibliographies and links to get you started at Panther's Lodge Native Circle. There are many, many places to look. Visit The USGenWeb Project where you will find links to the Project's individual State pages. The State sites are the jumping off points to get started on your research. Comanche Lodge even offers free lookups.
