available to members of the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee
Use your computer to SEARCH
for Native American Educational Opportunities
or grants. Many sites will appear. Some will be
restricted to federally recognized tribes, but many accept
State recognized tribes as well. The U.S. Indian Health
service is a good example. Also, contact the college or
university of your choice and ask if they have a minority Native
American enrollment program, if so have them send you an enrollment
application. Also, you may ask how to appy, what creditentials
you may need, etc. Upon request, your tribal office will
write a letter certifying your enrollment in the State recognized
Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee. Good

The Higher Education Program was contracted from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1983, with the first awards made to students attending college in the 1983 summer session. In 1990, the Cherokee Nation negotiated a Self-Governance Compact with the U.S. Government that established a direct relationship between the Cherokee Nation and the U.S. Congress. The compact authorized a direct block grant to the tribe to be allocated among various tribal programs and services, including higher education, in accordance with tribal priorities.
